Hand Pulled Gel Plate Mono Prints
Inspired by her surroundings in South East Alaska, Sandy Shepard collects and uses flowers, ferns, leaves and other plant materials found in nature on her walks. She also uses feathers and cut out images.
Sandy builds her prints by the laying of images, textures and color on rice paper. The process begins with a sheet of plexi-glass covered with 1/4 inch of unflavored gelatin. The gelatin serves a a printing plate which can be used repeatedly for a few days. Each resulting print is unique and individual. No two are ever alike.
